An Epic Poem

Check It Out

Box of Nightmares is a macabre and frightening account about a demon who infiltrates children’s dreams, so it can kill them and claim their souls. Three special children must battle the demon and its army of grisly nightmare creatures in order to survive. The Chosen Three receive assistance from spiritual entities like Sentry, who is the Keeper of Light, and the Good Dream Trilogy. If the demon of dreams is not subdued and returned to the Box of Nightmares, it will continue to kill sleeping babes for centuries to come.

Prologue

The Lord Demon of Dreams infiltrates children’s peaceful slumber and destroys all the goodness around them.
As the story unfolds, a child recites the “Monster Prayer” to keep monsters away before going to bed. A young boy, Peter, is briefly introduced, and it is implied he will find his destiny in a nightmare.
Two other children, Joseph and Miriam, also experience nightmares and encounter the Lord Demon of Dreams along with its army of followers. The details of the different nightmares define each child’s individual vulnerabilities and imply how he/she might resolve them. Elements such as darkness and light are personified and affect the course of events along with other entities such as courage, hope, and faith. Finding their paths in life are the puzzles all three of the children must solve in order to survive and find their true selves.
The Lord Demon of Dreams is described in gruesome detail and has the appearance of a horrible monster with arms of spears, eyes of blood, and giant fangs. It lies to children and torments them with false visions of comfort in order to take their souls into the Box of Nightmares. With malice and malevolent intent, “a facade in friendship masked is the demon’s clever guise.” The creature is extremely powerful and relentless.
Joseph, the second child introduced, is an adult when his childhood ordeal is discussed. The Lord Demon of Dreams viciously attacks young Joseph’s courage through a horrifying nightmare, but Sentry, Keeper of Light, aids him in his hour of need. However, Joseph’s fate is precarious, and his future is undecided.
The third child, Miriam, dreams of pleasant surroundings, but the Lord Demon of Dreams changes her perspective and turns her experience into utter terror. As comforting objects surrounding Miriam become the demon’s pawns, she is trapped by evil and cannot wake up. Her mother calls a doctor to help the child; however, nightmare creatures complicate Miriam’s recovery, and her fate looks grim.
The first child, Peter, is reintroduced and undergoes a nightmare so vicious that his survival is in question. He loses hope while trying to fight the Lord Demon of Dreams and his followers, so he succumbs to the creature’s horrid acts in the nightmare. Like Joseph and Miriam, Peter must find his courage in order to defeat the demon and wake up.
Will the children triumph over evil, or will the demon and its followers reign supreme? The outcome is surprising and keeps the reader guessing until the end.
Terror, mysticism, fantasy, horror, suspense, and adventure are present in Box of Nightmares which provide a captivating read about overcoming childhood fears.
